Technophobes

BBC Three is launching a new program called “Technophobes”, following the lives of five people who are afraid of technology.

Audience: ‘Technophobe’ is a documentary about fears of gadgets so the target audience would be around 15-30 year olds as they are the most interested in tech and would want to discover more. Generally BBC Three’s target audience is 16-34 year olds so this program fits in well. The audience is divided into socio economic bands and for this new program it will appeal more to the C1, C2 as they are able to afford all the new technology. But it would also appeal to the E band of audience as its more of students are also interested in all the new gadgets and gizmos. The gender this program applies to would be mostly males as they’re supposedly more into it then females.

Institution: the program would be shown fairly late at 10 o clock so young children wouldn’t be able to watch this, so more of your typical working class men would be watching this.

Media Forms: the type of program I expect to see would be observational/expository documentary so there would be voice overs narrating what’s happening also hidden cameras would be used so that the audience could see the honest progress of the 5 individuals as they wouldn’t they’re being filmed and give a 100% natural performance.

Representations: I think it would be negative as the people of this generation have been brought up with all the latest gadgets and its just become part of our everyday lifestyle so projecting people who are actually terrified of them would be hard to believe.
Web Blog Review: Oh My Di Days! Are these people being for real? How can you actually be afraid of your mobile phone like that 19 year old girl Baljeet, her phone rang al the girl starts screams hysterically, to be honest why even get the phone in the first place if you’re scared of it? Wow. Do people really act like that towards technology? It’s as if she’s been living under a rock and just came out. I’m still not fully convinced if this programme is real.
